Title - Shine the light (through follow up)

Main Text:- John 15:16

The act of follow up means checking if someone is doing okay especially when you don't see them be it in church, in the office, if they are feeling unwell etc.


Significance of follow up

1) Satan is after every soul (Matthew 16:26)
2) Satan does not leave a person forever. He is stubborn (Matthew 12:43-45)
3) There are different levels of maturity (Gal 4:1)
4) Iron Sharpens Iron (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
5)Everyone needs encouragement
6) It is only a fool that catches a fish and throws it back in the ocean (Gal 65:22-23)

Methods to follow up (Checking up on people)

1) Writing Letters (or email)
2) social media (watsapp, viber, facebook, snapchat etc)
3) Personal visit (1 Cor 16:5 & 12)
4) Showing kindness and hospitality

Category 1
Those who see no reason to thank God 

What are their attributes?
a) Atheist. Don't even believe in God's existence.
b) Worship nature rather than the creator of nature (Rom 1:25)

Category 2
Those who praise God in arrears

What are their attributes?
a)They are thoughtful (Psalms 103:1-5)
b) Thank God only when they see results (Luke 17:15-17)
3) They worship, praise and give God glory (when convenient) - Matthew 25:1-13

Category 3
Thank God in advace

What are their attributes?
1) Not moved by what they see
2) Love God for who He is 
3) Convinced beyond reasonable doubt, thier tomorrow is alright! (Isaiah 3:10)
4) Their love for God is unconditional
5) Their actions confuse the devil

2) Ignorance (2 Cor 2:11)

3) Power

Characteristics of Light (Cont'd)


- Prayer 
Those who are the light intercede on behalf of others. Daniel 6:14-17
It is not enough to just pray for yourself, you can pray for your nation, leaders

Why should we pray for our nation?
- To destroy every evil gate the devil has built in the land (Matthew 12:29)

- To break and cancel evil trends in our land. 
For example Ireland is well known for suicide. To break this trend, we need to pray

- So our eyes of understanding is opened (2 Cor 4:4)

Light and darkness cannot mingle, they have nothing in common. 
God has made us the light that should shine into our country, till darkness is expelled. 

Characteristics of Light
1) Light Attracts (i.e., our life must bring joy to people)
To attract others to Christ, you must be compassionate to unbelivers, just like Jesus did (Matthew 9:36) 
This means we must work on ourselves first. You can't give what you don't have.

Characteristics of Light
2) Love, because love cares

Characteristics of Light
3) Can't be hidden (Matthew 5:15)

Characteristics of Light
4) Chases out/ repels darkness (John 1:5)

Characteristics of Light
5) To be a light to the world, work on your character (Luke 6:43-46).

Factors that determine our progress

1) God
2) Ourselves

However there are barriers that could stop us from moving forward.
1) Not knowing the source of progress (John 15:1-5)

2) Wrong Association (Gen 12:1-5, Gen 13:5-13, 1 Kings 11:1-2)

3) Indolence (Laziness) Prov 22:13 & Prov 6:6-11

4) Pride, So be humble (Matthew 15:22-28, 1 Sam 1:)

5) Not hearkening to God's word (Isaiah 48:18)

6) Excessiveness (Luke 15:13)

7) Fear ( Exodus 14:13)

Prayer point:
Lord break every form of barrier that is stopping me from moving forward in Jesus  Name.

Kindness is:
1) Been friendly, generous & affectionate (Galatians 5:22)

2) Forgiving (Eph 4:32)

3) Correcting in love (Psalms 141:5)

4) Prayerful (Gen 24:12-15)

5) Remembers you for good  (2 Samuel 9:1-10)

6) Does not grumble (1 Cor 10.10)

7) Tells everyone about Christ

8) Overlooks & Pardons (Prov 19:11)

9) Inspires others


Prayer Points

1) Jesus, do not let my kindness be mis-interpreted (2 Samuel 10:1-4)

2) Lord let me be shown unusual kindness (Acts 28:2)

3) Help me to provide and show unusual kindness to others (Acts 28:2)


4) Help me not to be a forgetful receiver of your blessing (1 Cor 10:10)
